Israeli Subsidiary wins Boeing Contract
An subsidiary of a major Israeli defense contractor has won a contract from aviation powerhouse Boeing, according to the Israeli press. A major Israeli financial journal says the contract will run from 2008 to 2009, with Cyclone Aviation Products Ltd, a subgroup of the Elbit Systems defense contractor, supplying detachable fuel tanks, assorted pylons, horizontal stabilizers and gun access doors for advanced combat aircraft. The aircraft in question is the F-15 Eagle, which is a mainstay of both the U.S. and Israeli air forces.
According to Elbit Systems co-general manager Yoram Shmuely, "This contract win reflects the trust and recognition we have established among major aviation manufacturers such as Boeing. We believe this contract will pave the way for further business in this fast-growing market characterized by advanced technologies and innovative composite materials." Israel`s defense industry is considered amongst the most advanced, innovative and flexible in the world today, owing to the fact that the Jewish state has been in a state of perpetual war since its founding.
Elbit Systems has also been revealed to be a participant in a Boeing-led grouping which, earlier this year, won a contract worth approximately $2 billion from the U.S. government to build fences along America`s porous borders. Washington is concerned both about the ability of potential terrorists freely crossing into the U.S., as well as stemming the flow of illegal immigrants from Latin America. America`s longest border is with Canada, and there the idea of any sort of fence or barrier running the length is extremely implausible.
