Garbage Disposal Takes NBC to Court

Some companies are willing to go to any lengths to promote their business. As most of us know, there are obvious promotions that we receive in the form of the commercials and ads, and then there is a more obscure advertising. Sometimes this type of publicity can take the most bizarre form. For instance, some show-biz celebrities can actually spread bogus rumors about themselves for a simple reason of attracting attention and getting the desired publicity.

Therefore, most businesses don`t want to stay behind in this race for exposure (and higher profit as a result). But who could have thought that a garbage disposal might yearn for a spot in the limelight? However, after an episode of the NBC`s newest show "Heroes" that involved a character sticking her hand in the InSinkErator garbage disposal and getting it all crushed, the company that made the disposal, Emerson Electric, has decided to file a lawsuit against the series.

The company is claiming that NBC "casts the disposer in an unsavory light, irreparably tarnishing the product". Well, who could have thought? Already NBC has edited the brand-name out of the episode, however, Emerson Electric is still expecting to be rewarded for the "traumatic" representation of their product. But most likely it`s not the money the company is after, but publicity. After all, we know that there is nothing like a juicy scandal to stir-up the commotion around a product.
