How Much Does It REALLY Cost to Move

If you think you have a general idea of what it costs to move, think again. As if to add insult to injury, moving is not only stressful and exhausting, it also costs a lot more than you could imagine. There are lots of hidden costs that people simply do not take into account, which leaves them feeling cheated, frustrated? and broke!

One thing that many potential movers seem to overlook is the cost of moving supplies. Things like boxes, tape and bubble wrap seem to be forgotten necessities until people actually sit down to physically begin their packing. An average family requires about 100 boxes per move and with the price of boxes averaging on $2 a piece, it?s best to budget accordingly. Another ?little? expense that will have you digging deep into your pockets on moving day is the tip that you will need to hand to each mover. If you have four movers, expect to fork out $100 (or $25 each).

If you have an average amount of household equipment, you might be able to get a normal quote from your movers. But, if you have special equipment such as piano or especially fragile furniture, you will need to pay a lot more for the luxury of moving them safely from one location to the next. It is not uncommon to pay up to $500 to move a Baby Grand. Other hidden moving costs include insurance, transit costs and cancellation fees if things go wrong at the last minute. Add to all this the cost of getting set up in your new location and you can see that you will might need to do some realistic rethinking to get a picture of how much it will REALLY cost you to move.
