Promoting Beer on Shirts for Teens
Some companies think that when it comes to advertising, anything works. And often it does, especially in markets that you can easily manipulate. The beginning of the school year was barely a month ago and already it was graced with scandals. Of course, this time of the year is very profitable for all businesses that deal with items that can be used for the upcoming school year. Clothes included. The industry is well aware that when the teenagers go back to school they want to impress their peers with a trendy look.
Turns out that the fashion industry is only too happy to use this. For instance, Portland`s parents were shocked to find out what Macy`s offered to their kids, as "back to school" gear. In the teen section of the store were placed T-shirts with various explicit messages, mostly alcohol related. What actually outraged the parents were not the pictures and the outrageous logos on the T-shirts, but the fact that the notorious T-shirts were positioned as back-to-school goods and were sold in the teen section.
After the scandal surfaced on the news, Macy`s removed the shirts from every store around the country. However, the funny thing is that a similar story occurred exactly a year ago, also involving clothing items with outrageous messages sold to teenagers. Looks like today businesses in the fashion industry are willing to go to any lengths to promote and sell their products.
