Microsoft Invades Television Sets
If you think that the only place you connect Microsoft to is your office, then get ready to an invasion into your living room couch. For the past decade, this major corporation has been making plans for penetrating the television market. Microsoft has been the tycoon in everything that is connected to computers, however today its plans include a revolution in the area of television media. The only discouragement is the fact that Microsoft was not particularly successful in this area.
For the past few years Microsoft has been investing significantly into various cable and telecom companies, and in addition has launched a project called WebTV that was aimed at allowing the people to surf the Internet through their television set. However, today the company plans to achieve something entirely different. The project is already well on its way and Microsoft`s revenue for the last year was approximately $400 million, as a direct result of 3 million IPTV subscribers.
Several major phone companies, such as AT&T and BT Group, have invested into the IPTV (Internet Protocol TV), and are hoping that their invasion of the cable companies` territory will be successful. According to this new technology IPTV will obtain priority from phone companies by using the main highways or backbone of the Internet. All for the purpose of delivering various television programs that will attribute same qualities as the standard satellite or cable television.
