Viewers Refuse to Watch Soap Network
When it comes to money, television is a very risky business. It demands substantial investments and is always in danger of becoming a flop. The success of every Network constantly depends on the ratings among viewers. Therefore, it`s pretty dangerous to launch a new channel before making sure that it is really worth it. That`s exactly what happened with MyNetwork TV, a new channel launched by the News Corp. this fall. In its race to obtain the revenues the company forgot that every idea should be carefully thought through!
The new channel employed the concept that soap-operas are extremely popular among various audiences and decided to go with the flow and create an entire channel devoted to soaps. The shows that are featured on the channel at primetime are "Desire" and "Fashion House". According MyNetwork TV the shows mostly feature sex and fights among young people.
However, the ratings for these two shows are relatively low. Barely a million viewers have tuned in to observe the highs and lows that are presented in those telenovelas. Apparently, even the emphasize on sex that the Network hoped would manage to attract viewers doesn`t seem to cut it. Nonetheless, the company`s executives still hope to make some worthy lemonade out of this sour lemon. They are refusing to pull the no-so-successful shows from primetime, and claim that the current results were expected from the beginning and do not discourage anyone.
