Diamond Industry Is In For a Bloody Holiday

With the holidays nearing, many businesses are preparing to make substantial profits from selling various gifts. Well, one particular industry shouldn?t get its hopes up. Audience anticipates the release of the new DiCaprio movie called "Blood Diamond", which is bound to hit the wide screen in December. This is not the first time that a movie poses as a threat to a specific industry, and this time diamond retailers are bound to suffer.

The movie presents an illegal "conflict diamond" trade that took place in the 1990`s during the civil wars in Angola and Sierra Leone. The movie illustrates the numerous hardships that are connected to the "conflict diamond". It is a well known fact that during the holiday season, and Christmas in particular, diamond sales soar sky high. And when the season that can amount for the largest percent of the year`s proceeds is threatened with a premiere of a controversial movie, it is not shocking that the business`s executives are more than a little concerned.

The industry is fighting back for its sales, using every possible effort. For instance, the World Diamond Council (WDC) has launched a website: Diamondfacts.org. The purpose of the website is to educate the potential diamond-buyers regarding the "conflict diamond". In addition, a more conventional "weapon" is also used by the industry. A series of advertising campaigns will be launched in central press, including articles on the subject, all to promote the notion that diamonds are fabulous.
