Fox Discovers The Way to Outsmart the TiVo
All those proud owners and users of TiVo ? digital video recorder, who thought they could escape the annoying advertisements simply by fast forwarding them, are about to be very disappointed. Since commercials are a major asset to every business, no one wants to miss out on it. Fox is launching a new show in UK in October, and in order to assure that everyone, and we mean everyone, will receive the precious notice, Fox will run a 30 second static commercial.
The benefit of the new technology to the advertisers is obvious. Once the person, watching TV, decides to fast forward the commercial, he will still grasp an image displayed in the advertisement for a few seconds, due to the fact that the ad is stagnant. However, the company`s executives must also avoid annoying the regular viewers. The people who do not use this type of a recorder cannot be exposed to a simple static commercial for half a minute. Hence, Fox came up with a solution for this also: the image will be accompanied by a dialogue in the background.
Several television executives dread that this new technology will threaten the add-free programming. Already, a company that advertised an ad-skipping feature in its DVD players ? ReplayTV, went bankrupt in 2003. While the television executives panic, huge businesses find more sophisticated ways to deliver their advertisements to the public discounting all the special features that modern DVD players obtain.
