Digital Age Furthers the Business of Art

If you are a small business owner, and only have one or two employees, you could learn from one artist how to ensure the success of your business. Using the web to sell your products in lieu of opening up a costly store is one way to save cash. Staking out new territory in the on-line art wars and the art world in general, encaustic artist Kyle Evans has recently launched an updated version of the standard artist run website.

Normally, artist websites operate in a simple gallery format, but Evans has added a new twist to his evansfineart.com project. "I guess you could say I`ve `put the means of production into the hands of the workers,`" Evans says with a laugh. By making use of the newly refined digital printing processes he has made more art available to more people.

It used to be that only your gallery might take you into the world of fine art prints, or you had to bite the bullet and take all the risk upon yourself. And that risk could get expensive with high-run lithography prints. After all the cost, you still only ended up with a small percentage of `perfect` saleable prints, and then not every art lover got a great looking print so some cost or were worth more than others. Now, digital imaging has made it possible to print perfect replications each and every time so every customer gets a perfect print without having to pay a premium.
