Discount Hair Dryer Recall
Working with the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, Style Tronics Inc., of Los Angeles, California, announced the recall of over 19,000 hand-held hair dryers this week. According to Style Tronics, the 19,300 "Monica" and "Turbo 1200" Hand-Held Hair Dryers were ??electric hair dryers (that) are not equipped with an immersion protection plug to prevent electrocution if the hair dryer falls into water. Such electric shock protection devices are required by industry standards for all electric hand-held hair dryers." The ?Monica? and ?Turbo 1200? have been sold at discount stores across the United States, usually for prices ranging between $3-5.
The hair dryers involved in the recall are two models of ?pistol-type? hand-held hair dryer variety. The ?Monica? hair dryer has its model name and number, SW-117, written on the handle. The ?Monica? is made of black plastic and chrome, and the handle for this ?pistol-type? hand-held hair dryer folds up. The Turbo 1200 model has model number DS-507 written on the back of the handle, and the model?s name is written on the blower nozzle. Turbo 1200s come in the colors of green, and a white and green combination.
The hair-dryer recall wasn?t the first consumer product recall of this week, with Japanese automaker Toyota announcing the recall of certain models of their cars due to faulty parts which Toyota stressed had not put passengers in danger yet, but still needed to be replaced anyway for their own safety as a precautionary measure.
