McDonalds Attempts to Patent Its Burgers

The New York Post reports, that the fast food giant, McDonald has filed for patent on its process of making hamburgers. The franchise filed its request, which consists of a 55 page document, to the United States` Patent Office, as well as, in Europe. McDonalds is requesting its sandwich-making-process be recognized as intellectual property. Among other specifics the process includes toasting both parts of the bread together and sandwich making equipment, for example, a ketchup injector.

McDonalds has already filed for a patent in the UK. Lawrence Smith-Higgins, of the UK Patent Office told reporters that no one has the right to patent the process of sandwich making, which is attributed to the Earl of Sandwich, for which it is named, back in 1762.

The Sandwich is said to have been invented by the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who is said to have been an enthusiastic gambler. Being so busy gambling the lord complained he hadn`t the time for long meals. One day, while playing cards, one of his servants called him for dinner, he told them to stuff meat between two slices of bread and to bring it to the card table so he may continue playing. This is most likely not the true invention of the sandwich. Ancient Jewish scribes attribute the invention to the sage Hillel the Elder, who is said to have put meat from the Paschal lamb and bitter herbs inside matzoth, traditional flat bread, during Passover.
