American Trade Delegation visits Bangladesh


A small American delegation met with officials of Bangladesh`s "Export Promotion Bureau" (EPB) this weekend, and discussed trade policies being pursued by the Bangladeshi and American governments, local news agencies have reported. The American delegation was led by Jeffery W. Schneider, a senior economist at the US State Department, with the assistance of Ms. India Turner, a policy research staff member at Foggy Bottom.

Bangladesh is the 6th largest exporter of readymade garments to the USA which is the largest export destination of the country.During the meeting, U.S. officials discussed the export target for the country and policies with the EPB`s director-general, Mohammad Abdul Qayyum, and the Director for Policy and Planning, Faridul Hassan.

The U.S. delegation was appraised of the incentives provided to exporters and product and market development activities. Bangladeshi officials said the two sides expressed their willingness to work closely in the coming days, so that exports from Bangladesh to the United States can be increased.
