Penny-Pinching and Expensive Gasoline

If you have to pay $3.00 for a single gallon of gasoline, what does this mean for the other financial essentials of life? Well, when you consider the size of the average gas tank and the size of your family?s stomachs, what matters to you more? Unfortunately, that is the choice that many people have to at least think about, if not actually make. As you can probably guess, $50 or more for a single tank of gasoline that might not even last a week is a lot for, well, a lot of people.

Of course, if you carpool, the advantages should be obvious. You?ll pay less, and others will be chipping in so that you all can get to work or to the bowling alley, or to a restaurant. Even so, carpooling can hurt the wallet too over time, and it can add time onto your day that you could otherwise be spending with family. You could, if you wished, also simply just put gas into your tank as you need it - $3 here, $3 there, and so on.

However, doing this would merely put off the inevitable. You might even end up paying more if you just fill her up a little at a time. Carpooling might be the best option, but then even that is questionable when thinking about the time it takes and the traffic that you can run into. The best solution, of course, is for gas prices to be lowered. But when that will happen will is anyone?s guess, and even when it does whatever effects caused by the high prices now might mean that the lives of American drivers or commuters are forever impacted.
