Green Tech Might be the Next Big Thing


Kleiner Perkins Caulfield and Byers have invested in many pioneering tech firms such as Netscape Communications Corp., Amazon.com Inc., Google Inc., and other. Now John Doerr is looking into a new emerging sector that he calls "green technology." Doerr believes that this new fields will become as lucrative as IT and biotechnology.

The Menlo Park-based firm plans to set aside $100 million of its latest $600 million fund for technologies that help provide cleaner energy, transportation, air, and water. "This field of greentech could be the largest economic opportunity of the 21st century," Doerr said. "There`s never been a better time than now to start or accelerate a greentech venture."

Also known as, clean technology, the field includes technologies related to water purification, air quality, nanotechnology, alternative fuels, manufacturing, recycling and renewable energy. Judging by previous fields Doerr has invested in, green tech is going to be a huge success.
