CANON Appoints EIPR to Solve Counterfeit Problem

A few days back the Bangalore Police along with EIPR (Enforcers of Intellectual Property Rights) raided a shop in the busy Chikpet area, and seized a large quantity of counterfeit cameras. The raid was conducted on the basis of complaint lodged by EIPR on behalf of CANON. Similar raids were done in Mumbai and the Mumbai Police seized many counterfeited CANON cameras. The respective shop owners were arrested and booked under the copyrights act.

The fake goods problem (especially in the FMCG and white goods markets) is faced by many MNCs as well as Indian brands. Consumers are being affected across the country be it the metros or developing cities, the problem exists from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Companies have started to take action against these counterfeiters. Of them CANON leads the pack in taking stringent measures to curb this piracy..

To stem this, CANON appointed EIPR (India) Ltd., - a Mumbai based investigations firm that works on a FOUR pronged strategy Investigate, Gather Evidence, Lodge a complaint and accompany the Police for raids &, to identify the spurious goods. CANON has successfully used this method of curbing counterfeiters in Bangalore and Mumbai. So far hundreds of counterfeited CANON Cameras have been confiscated and arrests have been made. The accused are booked under the copyrights laws, trademark violation and the IPC.
