Disney Helping Hurricane Victims
Walt Disney World Resort headed to Houston last week to assist Hurricane Katrina victims stranded in that city. Disney joined more than 500 employers from throughout the Southeast at "Destination Occupation," a regional job fair aimed at assisting Hurricane Katrina victims.
Walt Disney World Resort interviewed applicants for hourly and full-time positions and made employment offers on site. A $1,500 relocation benefit was offered to some hourly positions, including character performers, culinary and quick service restaurants and dishwashers.
The job fair had more than 5,000 applicants. Walt Disney World also served as title sponsor of the childcare area at the job fair. New figures set to be released in the coming weeks would show that approximately 363,000 people will have been made jobless thanks to Hurricane Katrina.
