Georgia-Pacific Favors Machines over Humans
Georgia-Pacific, maker of Brawny paper towels and a variety of other paper and lumber products, is cutting more than 1,000 jobs as part of a restructuring move aimed at saving $100 million a year.
The company reports the elimination of 850 North American jobs will be replaced by four tissue paper machines and about 70 converting lines. Georgia-Pacific`s tissue paper products include Angel Soft and Quilted Northern toilet papers and Mardi Gras napkins.
According to reports, the majority of the job cuts will be at the mill in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Georgia-Pacific plans to move most of the mill`s warehouse operations to a new center in the Green Bay area and close certain operations there.
