Former Employee Sentenced For Microsoft Theft

A former Microsoft employee was sentenced to four years in prison Friday for the illegal sale of millions of dollars in company software. Finn Contini, 37, ordered $7 million in software through the company and then turned around and sold it, earning $2.3 million off of the sales.

He pleaded guilty in January to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and money laundering, along with three other employees involved in the scheme.

Contini, who worked at Microsoft from 1999-2002, agreed to terms set earlier this year, which included the forfeiture of assets acquired with the money from the scheme, totaling more than $1.7 million. He will also serve the four years of prison time, three years of probation and will pay $7.1 million of restitution to Microsoft.
