Film Opening Does Disney Well

Walt Disney Co. showed a fairly strong opening for its animated venture "Chicken Little." The numbers sent, Pixar, which has up to now been the leader in computer-generated animation, down more than 3% at one point.

"`Chicken Little`s` opening weekend performance should take some pressure off Disney. Disney needed the film to open at a respectable level in order to demonstrate the company`s ability to remain a key player in the animated film market," SG Cowen analyst Lowell Singer wrote in a note to clients.

Disney is only one of several entertainment companies which are hoping to see their numbers improve due to the vast number of films which come out each year as well as the "sameness" afflicting the market, with movies coming out each year that don`t seem to be any different from the films of the year before.
