Senate Candidate Looking for Presidential Inquiry
The presidency of George W. Bush has been questioned from the moment he was elected in 2000. Debates began with the Florida ballots and shortly thereafter with the terror bombings on September 11th. Bush has made several decisions that have affected not only the lives of those the country is at war against, but greatly affect the American people. Senator Carl Sheeler, a democrat from Rhode Island is now looking for the president to support the decisions he made in the past. After his fourth and final speech prior to the Constitutional vote and free elections in Iraq and after 1,000 days since American invasion, President Bush has announced he has taken `responsibility` for the faulty intelligence leading to the war.
Bush contends the invasions were still justified because the Iraqi people were entitled to their freedom. `This is truly unacceptable political, doublespeak at enormous cost to America and Americans. I demand we have a congressional inquiry`, stated Carl Sheeler, a former Marine captain. Sheeler challenged that Bush needs to be held accountable for his executive decision that has impacted millions of lives. He claims that a simple apology is simply unacceptable. Violating provisions of the Patriot Act and the hard fought rights of Americans is unacceptable. Resisting Senator McCain?s proposed legislation to treat enemy combatants more humanely is unacceptable.
The US leaders are expected to use their heads and hearts. They are expected to not make mistakes of such a colossal scale abusing the country?s good name, the military strength and the publics trust. Sheeler expect more. And believes that Americans deserve more. The senator acknowledges that the US has a global role to support people whose lives are often bleak when their governments don?t provide for them. The war has sacrificed over 2,200 American lives, over $225 billion in American tax dollars and over 1,000 days. How does this administration reconcile this as just a `mistake`? And yet it still attempts to put its nose into Americans private lives, stifle their rights, but presumably is advancing freedom and justice elsewhere? The blatant hypocrisy isn?t lost on the rest of the world.
