Businesses flooding internet PR waves

More and more businesses are using the self-congratulatory services provided by many websites to flood the internet with employment announcements that virtually no one reads, simply because the companies do not merit the importance that the national (or international) stage provided by online public relations sites would seem to bring.

"It isn`t necessarily the case that these companies are worthless," says one online PR industry observer, "But you have this tendency among businesses small and big alike that they need to toot their own horn or else no one would even know they exist at all."

For example, this observer noted the fact that a good number of businesses releasing announcements to the internet are limited in both their region and specialty, yet they act as if they are an international corporation meriting coverage from CNBC or Fox News.

"Newspapers in New York aren`t going to print the announcement that you just hired a new Systems Engineer if your company is a regional business in Des Moines, Iowa. These companies need to realize that their PR announcements would be better placed in their local newspapers than on the world wide web," said the industry analyst. "After all, the only people who probably care and who might be able to benefit from your new hire or business plan are located in your area."
